This showcases the son’s desire to protect his mother and create a better life for her. When it comes to music, there are certain songs that resonate with us on a deeper level. They have the ability to touch our hearts and souls in a way that words alone cannot. One such song is “House of Gold” by Twenty one pilots, beautifully covered by Cavetown. In this article, we will explore the meaning behind the song and its impact on listeners. Gramm co-wrote this gorgeous ballad and delivered an inspired vocal, but the song was the beginning of the end of his time with Foreigner.
The Contrast Between Melody and Meaning

The band was formed in 2009 by Tyler Joseph along with former members Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, and currently consists of vocalist/keyboardist Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun. They self-released two albums, Twenty One Pilots (2009) and Regional at Best (2011), before being signed by Fueled By Ramen in 2012. “House of Gold” by twenty one pilots is a beautiful song that explores the themes of love, aging, and pursuing dreams. It serves as a reminder of the importance of support systems and commitment, both to ourselves and to the people we care about. This realization adds depth to the song, as it reflects the struggles and uncertainties many of us face when chasing our own dreams. It highlights the importance of having a support system, just like Tyler’s mother, who encourages him to keep going despite the obstacles.

The song goes on to describe Tyler pursuing his own dreams, but he realizes that they are not everything he thought they would be. Furthermore, because of life’s twists and turns, his plans for his dreams may not even come to fruition or give him what he was looking for in the first place. It’s quite likely that this information was instilled in him by his mother, which could be why this track is dedicated to her. The song also explores the theme of pursuing dreams and the harsh realities that come along with it. Tyler acknowledges that dreams can sometimes fade away, and life has a knack for throwing unexpected curveballs. In the second verse, he even mentions the possibility of becoming a “bum” due to the unpredictability of life.

Tyler himself mentioned in an interview that the song represents the struggle between living and dying for someone. It’s easy to say you would die for someone, but it’s the everyday commitment of living for them that can be challenging. This song is his dedication to his mother, where he portrays the constant struggle of staying alive and fulfilling the promise he made to her. What’s interesting about “House of Gold” is its contrast between the happy melody and the underlying emotional weight of the lyrics. The upbeat ukulele and catchy rhythm create a catchy tune that might make you want to dance, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, you’ll discover a heartfelt conversation full of vulnerability and love.

The refrain adds another layer to the song, with the son promising to make his mother the queen of everything she sees. He reassures her that he will put her on the map and cure her of any disease. So she means and lot to me and so this song House of Gold is about her. We all have those people in our lives where we would say I would die for them, you know? And it’s actually pretty easy to, to say that you would die for somebody. And not to go on a preachy thing here, but like when I when I think of being a brother to three younger siblings and a son to parents—it’s hard to live for those people everyday. I wanna try to write a song which is how I’ve always approached instruments. So I tried to write a song right away and started off very simple, just strumming out that bottom string, you know, which is a C. And I just kept it going and I was just—and I kept doing that until I found the melody I was looking for. And you know my mom is a big inspiration to me and so the song really talks about her and what it is that I wanna do for her and whether that be financially or just in other ways too.
The chorus repeats this question, emphasizing the son’s promise to provide for his mother. Honestly I walked into this used music store place and I saw a ukulele and I bought it, just kind of spur of the moment. It wasn’t—it’s not a very hard instrument to learn and I just knew that, you know, I don’t wanna be playing other people’s songs on this thing.
